About - Meet Susie After many years of working as a clinician and academic within the field of public health, Susie was given a traditional 8 shaft floor loom. This was the beginning of a new career and weaving journey. Although a lot of her spare time had been spent on designing constructed textiles and collecting textiles, she sought educational resources tailored to her needs. This included courses at a Swedish weaving school and more locally. Susie set up her textile studio in 2016, in a beautiful heritage railway building, known as The Platform Studios, alongside 4 other artist's studios. Susie weaves full time for interiors, homeware and wearable pieces and sells from the studio as well as galleries and curated textile shows. Over the past few years Susie has been growing and processing flax for spinning into linen and growing willow for sculptural weaves in her plot. Her creative practice explores connections and synergy between loom woven cloth, and other natural fibres such as paper and home grown willow. The work speaks of a personal narrative about growing, harvesting, processing and making, with the maker as a constituent part of an ecological cycle.
